Company of the Week: KPMG – Management Consulting Analyst

I graduated from Aalto University School of Business in July, 2017, with Accounting as my Major. Additionally I will graduate from CEMS with the degree of Masters’ in International Management (CEMS MIM) in Sydney this December. During studies, my minors for both Bachelor and Master studies came from exchanges. Further, I benefited from international experiences from an internship in the Embassy of Finland in Washington D.C..

Besides undertaking an international internship, I worked with business controlling tasks in listed corporations during my studies. Whilst I enjoyed the different areas of responsibility that I worked with in business controlling, I also pondered if I would find the routines pleasant in the long-term.

I joined KPMG as an analyst in September, having taken part in the trainee program a year earlier. The trainee period was only two months, yet it gave me a good view of the types of projects my team worked with. The team of Financial Management enables working with a wide variety of accounting and finance projects compared to a typical controller’s monthly cycle – spending two weeks monthly with monthly closure reporting activities. A typical saying that what you learn at school may not prepare you for actual work life I find inaccurate, as consultants daily make use of problem solving skills enhanced during studies – thus, reflecting to our field of consulting, subject knowledge of accounting and finance really pays off. In project work I constantly get to challenge myself, but what drives me is finding the work we do meaningful. Thus, awesome colleagues are an invaluable perk, needless to say.
