Do you have what it takes to bring more energy to the KY community and encourage others to move and mind their wellbeing? Are you interested in getting familiar with new people and sports?
“enerKY was only just founded in spring 2015 and last summer we actually started from the really beginning by building up this new committee together. As sports tutors we have been organizing a bunch of different sports tryouts for KY members, such as SUP boarding, paintball and pole dancing. Organizing events hasn´t strained us too much and as a compact committee of four members our function has been flexible. Both brainstorming tryouts and taking part in them has been a lot of fun but what is also rewarding in being a sports tutor is to see the happy faces of attendees after the sports exercise!”
-Henni, enerKY’s chairman
enerKY, KY´s sports tutor committee is now looking for new members! The purpose of enerKY is to promote new sports and to have fun together while staying active. This small but effective group works together seamlessly coming up with an abundance of new ideas to get students moving. You don’t need to be a tutor, a member of Unisport, or an ex-elite athlete to apply!
“I noticed after my first year of studies that I want to join some club or committee. Sports have always been close to my heart and I felt that I want to organize events that might benefit others as well. That’s why enerKY was a natural choice for me. As a KY volunteer you can gain so much more than you might expect before. You get to know generally how KY operates and meet new people, for example. The best part is working with them. Although enerKY has been quite female driven committee it has been more than just fun to experience being the only man in the group. I think there is nothing better than working with extroverted and athletic women! So, what I am trying to say is that don’t hesitate to apply. It will be lots of fun!”
What does being a part of enerKY require? Excitement, imagination and energy. enerKY is an important part of KY’s operations without strict rules, weekly meetings or year long commitments. Members of enerKY work with the sports sector of KY with the aim of lowering the barrier to participate in KY’s sports activities. In the past enerKY’s sports tutors have been responsible for weekly running meetings, introducing students to paintball and thai boxing as well as climbing at Unisport in Kumpula. Do you have an idea what we could do next?
“I joined enerKY because I had noticed that after high school I was not able to play all different sports I used to play just for fun and there was no easy-to-go trainings available just for trying out some sports. With enerKY community we can take students to play floorball, football and volleyball anytime. We can arrange martial arts tryouts as we did with thai boxing. I also found myself at a pole dancing class, which likely would not have happened without enerKY. All exercises we arrange are cost-efficient for students which makes it even more valuable to have this kind of committee at KY!”
Now if you notice your mind to be full of ideas of new sports from low barrier to even more extreme ones, click APPLY! KY needs people just like you. Not professional sports instructors, but those who will encourage others to do sports by making the barrier, as well as the price, as low as possible. It’s that simple. You will get to enjoy the benefits of your work as well as the positivity enerKY brings into your own life!
“Being one of enerKY’s sports tutors has enabled me to try out all those sports I’ve always wanted to try (like paintball, wallclimbing etc.), but it has given me the opportunity to get to know students outside my own major or even outside business school as well. I’ve had a lot of fun organizing sports events and it’s been really rewarding to see that there is a lot of interest in our events. Being one of the organizers of the weekly runs has also pushed me to exercise even at times when I’m not in the mood to do sports. Being a part of enerKY has also encouraged me to move more myself. Finally, I’ve enjoyed planning and organizing events with like-minded fellow sports tutors. We had a great team this fall and I’m sure it’ll continue to be that also in the future. “
